Reasons to Celebrate February 14th OTHER THAN VALENTINE’S DAY

Valentine’s Day lost it’s magic for me after childhood when we stopped having little parties with cupcakes and sending candy grams and Disney Princess cards to our friends and those we secretly have a crush on. Nowadays my bitterness towards the holiday stems primarily because it’s a reminder that another year has gone by and Leonardo DiCaprio has yet to ask me to marry him…or anyone for that matter.

If you don’t have a loved one to celebrate the traditional wine and dine, chocolate and roses which is associated with Valentine’s Day, here are seven other reasons to celebrate February 14th 2017.

1. In One Month and 3 Days it will be ST. PADDY’S DAY!

This is the best holiday of the year to be single, as you can parade around, attend parties and drink as much green beer as your Valentineless heart desires without the fear of embarrassing your significant other. Bring on March 17th!

2. February 14th this year is on a Tuesday…Hello TACO TUESDAY!

If you live in any region which has jumped on the Taco Tuesday bandwagon, Tuesdays are always exciting as you’re offered a selection of discount deals on tacos. Spend the money you’d have spent on a gift for your partner and indulge in a taco and a Wild-berry Margarita.

3. You’re a month and a half into your New Years Resolution!

If you’ve made it this far by going to the gym 3+ times a week and avoiding the sweets table at your office, GOOD JOB- you’re nearly 1/6th of the way to completing your promise to yourself for the New Year. And if you’ve slipped up already…well, you’re not that far into the year that you can’t get back on track.

4. It’s the anniversary of when Jacqueline Kennedy gave a tour of the White House on American television

Yep. In 1962 Mrs. JFK was the first First Lady to give a televised tour of the newly renovated White House, called A Tour of the White House with Mrs. John F. Kennedy. It’s like the predecessor to MTV Cribz or the now abundance of shows we have snooping through the Hollywood Homes of the Rich and Famous. Who knows, maybe this even sparked the idea for The Real World, Jersey Shore or Real Housewives! Celebrate that with some champagne, pyjamas and Netflix!

5. We’re about half way through winter!

This is my biggest reason to celebrate. We’ve battled this season for over two months (December and January, and maybe November too), and unless we sincerely cheese off mother nature, we should have less than two months before it’s safe to come out of hibernation. Let’s cut the cake to that!

6. Chocolate goes on sale tomorrow.

Might as well celebrate by eating your remaining chocolate from Christmas (if you have any left) and ordering yourself a pizza- incase you get a sugar overload and need something savoury.

7. You are _____ years and _____ days old today.

In the words of the Mad Hatter, a very Merry UnBirthday to you. And if that isn’t the most pathetic excuse to celebrate rather than dining over Pino Noir and a 12oz steak with your other half, then I don’t know what is.

Another Valentine’s Day has gone by and you have yet to find the one person who is unique enough to be the match for your one-of-a-kind self! Until then, enjoy the evening alone shopping for underpants online and reading blogs by twenty-something year olds like me 🙂
