Feeling at Home Outside my Comfort Zone – House of Yes in Brooklyn

“An eclectic mix of unique entertainment and themed dance parties”

Read the review on Trip Advisor.

Offering an eclectic mix of unique entertainment and performances, House of Yes is a hotspot in Brooklyn which you don’t want to miss as part of your trip to New York City.

Located at the Jefferson stop on the L line of the metro, House of Yes is in the heart of Brooklyn’s famous Bushwhick district, where during the day you can see prolific street art including tributes to Notorious B.I.G. and Jimmy Fallon.

House of Yes has been around since 2008, where until 2013, the venue ran as a circus theatre and creative events space. Now, the venue offers shows of circus acts, musical talent, dancers, and vaudeville performers. Depending on the night, you could be watching amateurs in a competition, witnessing the best talent in New York City, or finding yourself immersed in an experience you can’y help but partake in.

At House of Yes, patrons are encouraged to be themselves and unleash their inner spirit in a safe place to do so. Colourful costumes and raunchy dance moves are the typical scene at this one of a kind entertainment venue.

The club itself features unique decor, with floral displays, animals, statues, mirrors and of course, magnificent light displays. There are even cages and platforms for the performers.

When I went it was a Wednesday night to a show called “House of Vogue”- a Vogue inspired dance-off competition. Participants challenged each other to show off their best moves, hosted by a charismatic and comedic MC. The moves were impressive, especially because they were done with such confidence. The weirdest thing I saw was a girl going into a backflip and loosing her wig- I wasn’t expecting that, but her pink hair looked dam good and she rocked her caution tape costume.

Drinks at House of Yes are reasonably priced for a NYC nightclub. The frozen mojito is one you have to try- it’s pre-blended, so you don’t need to worry about being ‘that person’ who orders a frozen drink at a busy bar.

The chill-out outdoor area is great to cool off, relax, smoke, as get a glimpse of the outfits up close.

On weekends the events are usually themed, and creative costumes, or at least an outfit with some effort, is required.

Prepare to relax, dance and let your creativity run wild in this one of a kind experience at House of Yes in Brooklyn.

Love from Lala.
